  • The Sony PSP May Be Gone Soon – Here is Why!

    Be the First to Comment!

There is sad news, I’m afraid, on the horizon for all of you Sony PSP lovers and players – the Sony PSP is on its way out and may not ever come back once again! So what about all of those Blu Ray movies that you rushed out and purchased that only work on your PSP? What about warranty repairs, and new games coming out every week? And what about internet access and Sony’s lauded, but quite often slow, free national wi-fi network that allows you to Google and web surf? Read more

  • Were Cartridge Video Games More Efficient than the CD Ones of Today?

Certainly everybody that I know remembers them fondly – those old cartridge video games of our technology-ridden past. And the one thing that is great about those older, 8-bit and 16-bit games are that they never wore out, were nearly ever defective and many of those old-school Nintendo systems of the past still work fine today. In fact, the N64, touted as the last great cartridge video game console was one of my favorites for their many innovative approaches to gaming. And still, up until today, I will pop in an old cartridge game into my N64 console and play the night hours away; and it always works, even if it is nearly ten years old.

The Gaming Consoles of Today are Defective
The same, however, is not true of the gaming consoles of today. They break all of the time. They constantly have maintenance of overheating issues, and they are far more costly to repair or purchase than the gaming consoles of our past. This frustrates me more than I can ever express. • It’s So Easy to Blame Grand Theft Auto IV for all the Problems in the World Today

Attention avid gamers: are you sick and tired of hearing all of this slandering of violent video games like GTA IV (Grand Theft Auto Four), where parents and society as a whole are apt to always point the proverbial finger at these video games as the root of all problems present in modern day society? It is ridiculous if you think about it, seriously! Video games are played using a plastic controller, attached to a console, connected to a television set – they do not represent anything realistic in any way, shape or form. In fact, most people are not becoming tantalized with the fake, cartoon-like violence that they see in a video game, nor are they becoming desensitized by play games like GTA IV.

It’s so easy to Point the Finger
Yet it seems that every time a kid commits a violent crime, video games like GTA IV are blamed as the culprit. When in reality there are other, far more violent things that are children are being subjected to. Like violent movies, the news, television programs and others. Read more

  • Three Excellent Flash Games

    1 New Comment: Join In!

These days, gaming has become a new kind of creature. Shiny, glossy console adventures have created a billion-dollar industry and PC gaming has tended more and more in the direction of lush complexity and stunning cinematics. Developers have budgets bigger than a lot of studio films coming out of Hollywood and have adopted a similarly innovation-averse business model. But, also like the film industry, the video game medium has started to embrace the work of independent outsiders. Games like Braid and World of Goo have received plenty of acclaim and a good number of players. For an entire generation of aspiring game designers, life in the art begins with Flash. Popular Flash-game websites like Kongregate and Newgrounds feature work from people as young as 13. With Flash originals like Alien Hominid getting official console releases, one-designer browser games are looking like an increasingly sound entry-level business approach. Read more

  • Games That Should Not Be: Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe

Boy, the 1990's were some good years. Peace time between the Cold War and the War on Terror. Unparalleled economic prosperity. The mainstream introduction of the Internet. What else am I forgetting?
Ah, yes. The last time I played a good Mortal Kombat game.

For some ridiculous non-reason, Midway Games has kept churning out iterations of the original bloody fighting series long after it was relevant or even fun to play. The first was revolutionary, the second was a nice update, the third was passable but rather unimaginative. By the time MK4 hit the shelves, I was fairly certain the series didn't have the legs to make it through the next decade. Being 12 and therefore naive enough to believe there is any dignity in the videogame industry, I was sorely mistaken.

So, as we slowly approach the 20th anniversary of the iconic slugfest, we have to entertain the notion of something as patently absurd as Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe. It's as if an executive over at Midway tripped over a long-discarded copy of Marvel vs. Read more
