To be one hundred percent honest, I was not expecting very much at all when I removed Folklore for the PS3 from the rental case that it came and popped it into my console to see what I could do with it. But then again, you never know about certain games, which is why, mind you, I rented it before buying it. And now I happily own a copy. And especially considering that there are some enormously successfully games out there for the PS3 like Elder Scrolls the Oblivion, or Final Fantasy, amongst others, I found it hard to believe that this game would really be able to offer gamers much more than had already been done prior. But boy was I freaking wrong! Game Republic (JP) and Sony Computer Entertainment did a simply put, fantastic job of rendering this game to be fierce competitor with other rival role playing games. The game offers a totally different take on the world of fantasy role playing video games. It merges two different worlds in the game, the world of the living and the world of the dead. During the massive gaming sessions that you will be subjected to while enjoying Folklore, you will have to frequently travel in between both of these worlds, which are vastly different from each other. The graphics, you will quickly find, are nothing short of brilliant, colorful, vibrant and decadent. And the control set will take even the shoddiest of gamers but a few minutes behind the wheel to master. When it comes to role playing games, the control sets can make or break the game in many instances. But the makers of Folklore realized this and purveyed upon us avid gamers a really easy to use control set that rocks. The game does require that you talk to everybody, until your ears are ready to fall off your body. Which is very similar to Elder Scrolls Oblivion, however I found it to be a bit overdone in Folklore, simply because you must talk to like thirty people just to find one clue, and sometimes that can make you get antsy. While I found many of the levels to be rather easy to beat, the detailed makeup of them is immaculate. My favorite feature in this game is the dungeon builder. You can create your own intense dungeons, set the monsters up, make twists and turns and so on, and then you can upload them to the Sony servers and share them with your friends, who can also rate them. Similarly, you can also download dungeons that other players have created to try your hand at beating them. With this concept in mind, the game literally offers endless play time. And, mind you, using the dungeon creator is easy, anybody can do it. "All around, Folklore really shocked me as a brilliantly contrived role playing masterpiece that has so much to offer gamers that it’s not even funny people." My Score: 9 out of 10
