We're promised more of Deus Ex: Human Revolution at E3 2010. The teaser itself shows us nothing new. Adam Jensen's face was shown in concept art a long time ago. The mechanical augmentations (as opposed to the nanoaugmentations of Deus Ex and Deus Ex: Invisible War) are only to be expected, given that Human Revolution's role as a prequel was announced even longer ago. The visual augmentation looks cool, but whether we'll actually see it like that (no pun intended) is yet to be seen.
The CGIs of the trailer are amazing (it'd better be, considering the trailer is all CGI). Of particular note is when Jensen's flying cadaver erupts wings - it's surprising and breathtakingly beautiful all at the same time. The clicking, sliding and whirring of his arm as he reaches for his drink (and the minute, fine cracks that appear when he holds his glass) is exquisite, as is the brief shot of the night skyline.
So now, we wait. E3 2010 is June 15-17th, and the rumors are that the world will see the first gameplay footage from Human Revolution. Considering that the game is due this year, any gameplay footage that may or may not be shown might well be the final product, or at least close to it (as opposed to the preview footage of Deus Ex: Invisible War, which went through considerable tweaks before the game was released). Brief gameplay was privately shown to journalists at the Game Developers Conference, with the request that the footage not be recorded. The secrecy (like everything in the worlds of Deus Ex games, when you think about it) makes me think that E3 will give us our first real glimpse at what Human Revolution promises.
If Christopher Nolan could bring the Batman franchise back from the dust, if J.J. Abrams could resurrect the Enterprise, and if Russell T. Davies could revive Doctor Who, can Eidos Montreal reactivate Deus Ex?
