Great looking trailer for the new DC Universe Online game. Hope there are more CG scenes like this throughout the game because this is one of the better superhero fights put together in a while.

My Game Wish List

Add Comment

Video game technology has gotten advanced enough in the past few years that just about any scenario can be simulated on current-generation platforms. Unfortunately, as games have become more impressive and immersive the business surrounding them has become more restricted. Development budgets for top-tier games are bigger than most feature films and publishers are less willing to pursue innovative concepts for fear that they won't deliver on the market. This doesn't mean there aren't genuinely fun, inventive games out there today, just that it's harder for a game to go from the drawing board to the console. Here are a few games I'd like to see amid the many sure thing titles currently on the shelves.

How WoW Got Big

Add Comment

For years, Blizzard Entertainment's World of Warcraft has been the most popular Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game and every new MMO that hits the scene is inevitably compared to it. As of today it's an unkillable giant in the video game business's newest category. But why WoW? How is it that mostly no-frills Real-Time Strategy franchise evolved into the premiere online gaming experience?

Beautiful Video Game Music

Add Comment

There was once a time when video games were synonymous with shrill, simple, hopelessly computerized music that was almost impossible to take seriously. As hardware improved and development budgets ballooned, music became an essential part of the gameplay experience. No longer are games plagued with irritating MIDI sounds (unless it's an ironic throwback) and now the songs accompanying us on our electronic adventures are worth listening to on their own.

James Frey: Bright Shiny Morning

Bright Shiny MorningBright Shiny MorningJames Frey is kind of the Nixon of the literary world, but that didn’t stop me from reading his novel, “Bright Shiny Morning”  or from liking “A Million Little Pieces”- even after the Oprah Winfrey debacle. I like his writing style; in particular, I like his natural-sounding dialogue and his absolute refusal to adhere to the standards of punctuation that the rest of us reluctantly have to follow.

Investigator is another new profession that came in with the Ambitions expansion pack.  My Investigator Sim is only at level 5 so far, but one thing I can say for sure: this profession will keep you (the player) hopping!

SimBots Ahoy!

Your New SimBot Is Here!Your New SimBot Is Here!

The Ambitions expansion pack introduces a new playable character, the SimBot.  There is some speculation that the SimBot is a precursor to Servo, the beloved robot from The Sims 2.  (The Sims 3 is technically a prequel to The Sims 2, and takes place about 50 years beforehand.)

There are two ways to get a SimBot.  If your Sim accumulates 40,000 Lifetime Happiness points, they can cash them in on the "My Best Friend" reward.  A SimBot will be sent out to your house, and will arrive by taxi.  Its gender and name will be pre-determined by the game.

Awful Flash Game Roundup: Raising the Bar of Stupid

Add Comment

The Internet is a fast-moving medium and quality is relative. As each year passes, the overall level of competence in platforms like Flash game design goes up. This means that what passed for a decent game just a couple years ago is now a complete waste of time. It didn't dawn on me until this week just how similar the worst games of 2010 are to the best games of 2000. I'd even get all nostalgic if it weren't for the sheer awfulness of today's game selections.
