Are you playing Playerunknown's Battlegrounds?

PUBG is the hottest game of the year

I'm not one for multiplayer gaming these days. It takes such a huge time investment to keep up, much less be any good at it. Nevertheless, Playerunknown's Battlegrounds is such a huge phenomena that I might just have to try it.

The game began life as an Arma 3 mod by author Playerunknown. He spun it off into its own game, called Battlegrounds. Since you can't trademark the name "Battlegrounds," he decided to name it "Playerunknown's Battlegrounds." This is a frankly terrible name, but it doesn't seem to have made a dent in sales, as the game has been top of the Steam charts for weeks, despite still only being in Early Access.

The core concept of PUBG is, you and 99 other people get airdropped onto an island. The island has weapons and structures and vehicles. Whoever is left alive at the end of the match, wins. Beyond that, it's all up to you.

One strategy is to move fast and kill as many people as possible. Another strategy is to creep around gathering supplies and materiel, then making a final stand. Or you can run around like an idiot driving a Jeep in circles while yelling "WOOOOOOO." It's up to you!

The chaotic nature of the game has lent itself to Twitch streaming, which is (as I understand it) a big part of why this game has grown so popular. In fact, Twitch streamers are such a big thing in PUBG that the game is trying to ban "stream sniping," which is when you watch a Twitch streamer's stream to figure out where they are, then hunt them down and kill them.

Have you tried PUBG? And if so, what did you think?
