Browser games are arguably more versatile than commercial video games. They aren't made and marketed under the same business pressure and they don't require companies staffed with dozens of full-time workers to produce. The simplicity and overwhelmingly independent nature of the browser game field makes it possible for designers to choose the aim of their product. Sometimes they go for plain, old-fashioned fun, other times they reach for something loftier and more impressive. Still other times, it's more about art or a message than pure gameplay. October 2010 provided excellent examples of each.
